ABSTRACT

Background: Bronchopneumonia is an infectious disease that often attacks toddler-aged children.
This disease can also cause obstruction of airway clearance, which has an impact on respiratory
status, causing obstruction of the respiratory tract. Providing chest physiotherapy is one of the
independent nursing actions that can be carried out by room nurses in an effort to remove
secretions that are stuck in the airway, using clapping and vibration techniques. Purpose: This
case study is to determine the results of the application of chest physiotherapy to toddler-aged
children with airway clearance disorders. Method: The design of this writing uses the case report
method. There are two respondents aged toddlers with ineffective airway clearance disorders, and
then chest physiotherapy will be given after inhalation. Chest physiotherapy is performed once a
day for 3 days, with a duration of 10–15 minutes. The results obtained from the two patients after
3 days of chest physiotherapy were quite significant, namely that secretions could come out
through the digestive tract; when the child defecated, the feces were mixed with quite a lot of
mucus; there were no complaints of difficulty breathing; oxygen saturation increased; and
additional breath sounds were crackles. not heard. Conclusion: Based on these results, it can be
concluded that the application of chest physiotherapy in toddler-aged children with impaired
airway clearance has proven to be effective and can be recommended as a nursing care
management strategy to overcome airway clearance in hospitals.
