ABSTRACT

Bronchopneumonia is the main cause of death in children in the world. Bronchopneumonia is a
secondary infection which is usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus bacteria which enter the
respiratory tract, causing inflammation of the bronchi and alveoli, resulting in increased sputum
production in children. Inability to expel phlegm is a problem that often occurs due to a lack of
cough reflex. The purpose of this paper is to identify the effect of providing exercise therapy using
the balloon blowing method as an effective intervention to overcome oxygenation problems in
bronchopneumonia patients focusing on respiratory system problems with ineffective airway
clearance. Method: Blowing up a balloon can help increase lung expansion, mobilize secretions,
and increase lung volume. This can reduce symptoms ofrespiratory failure and improve oxygenation
in bronchopneumonia patients showing a decrease in respiratory frequency (RR), Heart Rate and
increase in Saturation. The results of research from An A and An Flatihan using the balloon
blowing method showed that airway clearance improved, with the absence of additional breath
sounds, rhonchi. It was concluded that breathing exercises using the balloon blowing method can
be done independently at home by the patient so that it can be an additional modality that useful in
the management of bronchopneumonia patients.
