ABSTRACT

Introduction: Caesarean section is an operation to remove the fetus and placenta and is commonly
performed in some high-risk pregnancies. Although common, caesarean section is a major surgical
procedure with higher risks than vaginal delivery. The incidence of caesarean section continues to
increase and occurs mostly in primiparous mothers, namely 18.9%. One of the most common
responses in post-cesarean section patients is pain and anxiety. Various types of pharmacological
therapy are used to relieve pain after caesarean section, but several studies show that

pharmacological therapy has dangerous effects on the mother's health status, and one of the non-
pharmacological therapies with minimal side effects and is cost-effective and makes the patient feel

comfortable is hand and foot massage.Objective: To analyze the application of Hand and Foot
Massage to reduce the scale of surgical wound pain and anxiety in primiparous mothers post sectio
caesarea in Bekasi city private hospitals Method: This research uses a case study method with 2
respondents in the form of nursing care to determine the reduction in pain and anxiety
scales.Results: The results of this study showed that there was a decrease in the pain scale from
moderate pain to mild pain in both patients, with patient 1 experiencing a decrease in the average
pain scale from 5 to 4 and in patient 2 there being a decrease in the average pain scale from 4.3 to
3. And there was a decrease in the anxiety score from mild anxiety to no anxiety in patient 1 with a
decrease in the average anxiety score from 33 to 27 after the hand and foot massage
intervention.Conclusion: Hand and foot massage is effective in reducing pain levels and anxiety
scores
