ABSTRACT

The body of flies is filled with fine hairs that are carriers of microorganisms, one of which is
Escherichia coli and Salmonella sp. The Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Disposal Site (TPST) is
a location in Bekasi City that is an endemic place for house fly vectors (Musca domestica) and green
flies (Chrysomya megacephala). The location of the fly collection is around the residential area of
RT 004 / RW 004 in Cikiwul Village, Bantar Gebang, with as many as four points of collection,
namely wet chicken feathers, piles of sacks, shoe waste, and a collection point for plastic bottles.
The purpose of this study is to determine the density of flies and identify the type of bacteria in the
caught flies. The type of this study was descriptive with a cross-sectional research design. The study
was conducted by isolating bacteria in flies grown in MCA and SSA media. The bacterial colonies
that grow were then subjected to Gram staining and biochemical tests. The highest fly density at the
location of the bottles was 69.3 with a total of 104 flies which was dominated by C. megacephala
flies. The results of bacterial identification were found in codes A.1.1, A.2.1, A.3.1, A.4.1, B.1.1,
B.2.1, B.3.1 and B.4.1 suspected to be Escherichia coli, in codes A.1.2, A.2.2, A.3.2, A.4.2, B.1.2,
B.2.2, B.3.2, and B.4.2 suspected to be Salmonella sp. while in code B.4.3 it is suspected to be
Klebsiella sp. bacteria. The density of flies was very high and three types of bacteria were found,
namely E. coli, Salmonella sp. and Klebsiella sp. in flies caught at four points of the collection
location.
