ABSTRACT

Fast, precise and reliable laboratory results can be obtained by carrying out laboratory
examinations according to procedures. The pre-analytical stage contributed the largest error of
around 61%. Glucose examination is one of the laboratory tests that is often carried out. When
checking glucose, errors can occur, one of which is delaying the sample examination which can
affect the results of the examination. Apart from using serum samples, glucose tests can also use
plasma samples, sodium fluoride (NaF), which is considered capable of inhibiting the glycolysis
process. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of delay time (0.5 minutes and 10 minutes)
on serum glucose and plasma NaF levels. The type of research carried out is experimental research.
Blood glucose levels were measured using the GOD-POD method with 11 students and 11 diabetes
mellitus sufferers as respondents. Testing research statistical data on differences in glucose
examination results between diabetes mellitus and healthy sufferers with delay times of 0, 5 and 10
minutes in sodium fluoride plasma tubes and plain tube serum using the T - test. Obtained sig value.
in NaF plasma samples with a delay of 0 minutes was 0.058 and a delay of 5 minutes was 0.058.
Meanwhile, at a delay of 10 minutes, a sig value is obtained. Amounting to 0.044. The sig value
obtained for serum samples in DM sufferers and students at a delay of 0 minutes was 0.006, 5
minutes 0.003 and 10 minutes 0.003. The statistical test results for plasma samples with delays of 0
and 5 minutes did not show any significant difference, while there were significant differences with
a delay of 10 minutes. In the serum samples, the sig values obtained at delays of 0, 5 and 10 minutes
were significantly different.

Key words: Glucose, Plasma NaF, Serum, Time of delay, GOD-POD.
