HUBUNGAN KECANDUAN GAME ONLINE DENGAN KUALITAS TIDUR DAN GANGGUAN EMOSI PADA REMAJA DI SMPN 21 BEKASI



ABSTRACT

Introduction: Data shows the number of online game players in Indonesia increased from 23.7
million in 2019 to 28.1 million in 2020. Among adolescents 15-18 years old, 77.5% of males and
22.5% of females experience online gaming addiction, with 42.23% spending more than 8 hours a
day. About 58% of e-sport participants in Indonesia are under 18 years old. Junior high school
adolescents are prone to deviant behaviour, including online gaming addiction, which can lead to
sleep and emotional disturbances. Therefore, this study examined the relationship between online
game addiction with sleep quality and emotional disturbance in adolescents at SMPN 21 Bekasi.
Methods: This study applied a quantitative design with a cross-sectional method to analyse the
relationship between online game addiction and sleep quality and emotional disturbance in
adolescents. The research instruments used included a standardised questionnaire to measure
online gaming addiction or Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD). Sleep quality was measured using the
Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while emotional disturbance was assessed with the Strengths
and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The research subjects were students of SMPN 21 Bekasi City.
The sampling technique used simple random sampling with a total sample size of 61 respondents.
The statistical test used to analyse the relationship between these variables was Fishers Exact Test.
Results: The results of the study obtained sleep quality (p-value = 0.600> α = 0.05) and between
online game addiction and emotional disturbance (p-value = 0.134> α = 0.05) in adolescents at
SMPN 21 Bekasi.
Conclusion: This indicates that online gaming addiction does not have a significant relationship
with sleep quality or emotional disturbance in adolescents at this school. Future research is
recommended to expand the sample size and consider other factors that may affect sleep quality and
emotional disturbance in adolescents.
