ABSTRACT

Background : Hospitalization of children is a process of treating children in hospital for
planned or emergency reasons to undergo therapy and treatment until their discharge. Children
are different individuals in a range of developmental changes starting from infancy to
adolescence. Childhood is a period of growth and development starting from infancy (0-1
years), play/toddler age (1-2.5 years), pre-school (2.5-5 years), school age (5-11 years) to
teenagers (11-18 years). Pre-school age children have an age limit of between 3 and 6 years.
The growth and development stages of pre-school children include biological, psychosocial,
psychosexual, cognitive, moral and social stages. In this study the dependent variable is
drawing play therapy while the dependent is child hospitalization, namely anxiety. This
research was conducted at X Private Hospital, Bekasi City. Research method: This research
applies the "Quasi Experiment" method and uses a one-group pre and post-test approach. The
subjects of this research were preschool aged children with cases of infection at the X Private
Hospital in Bekasi City, with a sample size of 34 respondents, total sampling technique.
Research results: Based on the results of statistical tests for the two samples, namely the pre
and post anxiety level scores, the number of negative rankings was 595.00 with an average of
17.50, while the number of positive rankings was 0.00 with an average of 0.00. So it can be
concluded that this research shows the effect of providing drawing play therapy on anxiety
levels in preschool children aged 3-6 years who are undergoing hospitalization.
