ABSTRACT

Introduction: Acute respiratory tract infection is an acute inflammation of the upper and lower
respiratory tract organs. ARI is very contagious and children are a group that is very sensitive to
this disease. The reason is that children's immunity is still low so they are susceptible to various
diseases. Objective: This research aims to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge
and family smoking behavior on the incidence of ARI in children under five. Method: This research
is descriptive research with a quantitative approach and cross-sectional research design. Sampling
was total sampling with a total of 96 respondents. Data collection uses a questionnaire. Data
processing uses SPSS with the Chi-Square Test. Results: The results of the study show that there is
a relationship between the mother's knowledge and a p-value of 0.047, while for the family smoking
behavior variable on the incidence of ISPA in toddlers with a p-value of 0,012, this figure is >0.05,
so it can be concluded that there is relationship. Conclusion: from the results of this study there is
a relationship between maternal knowledge and the incidence of ISPA, while family smoking
behavior has a significant relationship with the incidence of ISPA in toddlers.
