ABSTRACT

Introduction: During adolescence, they will experience the puberty phase, there are not
many juvenile delinquencies such as free sex, drugs and other delinquencies, these
delinquencies are influenced by environmental factors. These factors trigger the negative
impact and risk of sexually transmitted diseases. Teenagers need education for their
insight, such as education from peers. Objective: The aim of this research is to determine
the effect of peer education on knowledge and attitudes about sexually transmitted diseases
in adolescents. Peer education is education carried out by peers by discussing a topic being
discussed. Peer education can provide comfort to fellow peers in improving knowledge and
attitudes. Method: This research used a Quasi Experimental method carried out at SMAN
1 Bojongmangu. The sample used was 63 respondents and 6 educators from class XI
students. The research was conducted in October 2023 – July 2024, and the
KEPK/UMP/127/II/2024 ethical test was carried out. The inclusion criteria used were
class XI students, willing to become respondents. Meanwhile, the exclusion criteria were
unwillingness to be a respondent and intending to change schools in the last month. This
research involved training a team of educators and then respondents were given education
using a pre-post-test questionnaire. Results: The data analysis technique used the
Wilcoxon test with the results of the pre-post test, knowledge and attitudes of teenagers
increasing after being educated by peers with an increase of 5 points in each variable.
Conclusion: The research shows that there is an influence of peer education on knowledge
and attitudes about sexually transmitted diseases in adolescents with a p-value of 0.000.
