ABSTRACT

Background: Breast milk is a safe, clean food, containing the energy and nutrients
that babies need. In the breastfeeding process, mothers need support to increase
self-efficacy. Husband's support is important during breastfeeding and can increase
the mother's self-confidence. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship
between husband's support and mothers' breastfeeding self-efficacy in providing
exclusive breastfeeding. Method: This study used a cross-sectional design. The
research sample consisted of 61 respondents using purpove sampling technique.
Inclusion criteria are mothers who have babies 0-6 months, mothers who have a
partner living at home. The tools used in this research were the Couple's

Breastfeeding Intention Scale questionnaire and the short-form Breastfeeding Self-
Efficacy Scale. Data analysis used the Fisher Exact test. Results: Statistical test

results show that there is a relationship between the husband's support received by
the mother in providing exclusive breastfeeding with p-value (0.002) < α (0.05). It
was found that there was a relationship between husband's support and
breastfeeding mothers' self-efficacy in providing exclusive breastfeeding.
Discussion: Research explains that the components of support such as help,
appreciation, presence and responsibility that mothers receive are mostly high
levels of support from their husbands. Conclusion: There is a relationship between
husband's support in providing exclusive breastfeeding. Husband's support is very
important to increase the mother's self-efficacy in providing exclusive
breastfeeding.
