ABSTRACT

Background: Dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain in the pelvic area because it is influenced by the
presence of prostaglandins, categorized as pain in the short time during menstruation in women.
Dysmenorrhea pain will last from one to several days during menstruation. Objective: to analyze
factors related to the incidence of dysmenorrhea. Method: This research was conducted using
analytical observation using a cross-sectional design using the Fisher Exact test. Sampling used a
Purposive Sampling technique with a total sample of 175 female students at STIKes X Bekasi City.
Results: The results of this study showed that there was a significant relationship between stress
levels and the incidence of dysmenorrhea, p-value = 0.002 (p < 0.05), there was no significant
relationship between the age of menarche and the incidence of dysmenorrhea, p-value = 0.169 (p >
0, 05), there is no significant relationship between the length of menstruation and the incidence of
dysmenorrhea p-value = 0.609 (p > 0.05), there is no significant relationship between family history
and the incidence of dysmenorrhea p-value = 0.316 (p > 0.05) , there is no significant relationship
between physical activity and the incidence of dysmenorrhea, p-value = 0.735 (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: there is a relationship between stress and the incidence of dysmenorrhea and there is
no relationship between age at menarche, length of menstruation, family history and physical
activity and the incidence of dysmenorrhea.
