ABSTRACT

Background : Hypertension is a disorder in the circulatory system that results in
an increase in blood pressure above normal values. Physical activity in the elderly
has been shown to improve physical, cognitive and functional status and reduce
the risk of weakness due to degenerative diseases. The average activity done (>
360 minutes per week) is three times more likely to be weak at age 50 and age 75
(16,1% compared to 4,7%). Motivation in the elderly can be formed through the
activation of family support This study aims to see the relationship between
emotional support and physical activity in the elderly with hypertension. Methods:
The design of this study is descriptive correlation with a cross sectional approach.
The sample of this study is in the form of primary data totaling 126 respondents
with the criteria of the elderly who do physical activities and live with their
families, this research was conducted at the Pengasinan Health Center, the
instrument used was the questionnaire "Emotional Support and GPAQ (Global
Physical Activity Questionnaire)" in this study has passed and passed the ethics
test at the University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto with the ethical number
registration KEPK/UMP/116/VI/2024. Results: The results showed that in the
hypothesis test conducted by bivariate analysis using the Pearson chi square test,
a p-value = 0.000
